A Question

Why do we come online when we usually have nothing to say to each other?
Just for the 'hey.. sup' 'not much u telme' 'ntn just bored' 'yea me too :|'
Thats IT?

Why do we come online when we have nothing to talk about?

I want answers. Do express yourself.

Hmm.
I think we DO have stuff to say.. but we just cant express our feelings online too well than we can in person. :)
Although its the opposite w/ me.
I mean.. I cant have heart to heart talks anywhere else.. NEVER in person
So I usually talk online :)
Thats why I am online so much..
But its different for everyone, I guess..

But most of the time we're all just online wiling away precious time which could have been wasted more usefully in front of the tv or out with friends or on the phone or eating etc.. & if we do have stuff to say then why don't we say it? Why are all of us online without usually saying a word to each other?

Because we really have nothing to say, I mean I do that on the phone and not online, mainly because I don't like talking through that medium, and plus most of the people added on your chat client are people you haven't really met or know so well, so you can't expect a full conversation about anything, expect for those random questions which even Orkut wants us to answer, like favorite movies, music, tv shows etc.

But I know many people online, heck I have a long distance relationship going on, so its not always necessary that just 'what's up?' is the end of conversation, it depends on the person you are talking too.

I wouldn't really call that all. Sometimes its easier for people to converse online, rather than in person, maybe because the second party might be too overbearing or scary looking [?!] in reality. Sometimes its easier for people to be more candid when they don't have the other person physically present in front of them. [That happens a lot with me, my er..facial reactions tend to make people clam up :P]
Then there are people who are more free with someone who doesn't know them at all, since they can open up as much as they want, and in case things take a wrong turn, there's a simple option. Block.

To each their own, say I. :)

Because the only reason the general internet population goes online is to kill time. Not to make conversation but to make clear to the rest of the world that they are bloody bored and so they are here to annoy the living hell out of you by telling you just that.
And once we accomplish that menial task, we run out of words. Simple.

@ Jay: My best of friends n even my family are there in my contact list! Not knowing them well is out of question! there are ofcourse random people you dont know but then you can orkut talk them & either know them better or as vasudha said block them.
Still, is staying online just about being there? if so then why!!

@ Vasudha: Now answer my question!! :p

@ Nikita: I do naggingly agree with you, but then why do we kill time by staring the monitor? But then yours is the best answer so far! xD!
